Sail’s origami-inspired form gives it its signature weightless allure. An edge-lit light source delivers the kind of output you do not expect from such a slight luminaire. Different output levels may be specified to meet a diverse range of applications.

Initially designed as an OLED lighting fixture, Sail didn’t fit in a lot of environments due to the low output offering. My responsibility on this project was to change the OLED light engine for something more powerful, easier to assemble, while keeping the same slim and delicate look and proportions.

The idea of an edge-lit light engine came up as this type of technology checks all the boxes and allows the assemblers to be less delicate when assembly the fixture, decreasing the assembly time by half the initial one.

From 200lm with the OLED version to 1250lm with the edge-lit version, Sail is adaptable to diverse applications and fits the Well & leads standards requirements.

The new edgelit light engine allows the Sail to have a new stem mouting option offering an elegant solution for low mounting spaces.
